Group Meeting Food: What Do We Really Want?
by
I’m not sure when I’ll be able to eat Au Bon Pain again. Probably not for years. There are only so many bagels and pastries one can eat in their life. And thanks to group meeting, I’ve filled my quota for a while.
I’m the first to admit that I lack all imagination when it comes to supplying the lab with food. Generally, my mornings to get food unfold as follows:
Me: Who’s up today?
Lab member: Um, I think Steve. You were last week, right?
Me: Yep.
Lab member: What did you bring for food?
Me: #&*^$%!!!!
And by default, I run to the closest place and get the same old stuff as always because it’s all I have time for at that point.
Group meeting food is largely dictated by the time of the meeting. A 4pm meeting probably won’t serve omlettes. A 9am meeting likely won’t have beer. But the meetings themselves often seem to be scheduled based around a few members schedules, as opposed to picking a food people would like and then fitting that into the schedules.
So after years of sitting by quietly, eating your dry cookies or cutting a pastry into 15ths so everyone can have a bite, we’re giving you a voice. If it were up to you, what type of food would you prefer at group meeting? Food takes priority – if you love breakfast, but you really don’t want a morning meeting, that’s OK – still vote for breakfast.

Any particularly delicious (or horrific) items served in your meetings?

With a little imagination, one kind find alternatives to the traditional pizza for about the same price. But it can complicate the logistics of pickup, delivery, and distribution. It's worth the trouble though.
