Looking for a Bright Idea? Go Bold With Color This Season
by
I’ve noticed the trend of bright color in magazines. How do I wear it without feeling like a clown?
-Laura
Dear Laura,
There’s no doubting that you’re a scientist. You observe. You inquire. You test. You conclude. So here is a fact. Color is bursting at the seams this season. And it’s not just color- it’s neon. It’s bright. It’s bold. Sure it’s a noble gas. But if worn incorrectly, it can make you look like a noble ass. So do it right if you’re going to go bright. Here’s how:
General tip: Neon works best if you wear it near the center of your body (i.e. a tie, a shirt, pants, hand nail color) so that others’ eyes stay focused on your center. The color should be an enhancement, not a distraction. As is true with anything in fashion and beauty (and perhaps life) – you own it. It does not own you!
Nails
Nail color is always a fabulous way to test a trend. It’s a low investment and you can swipe it off in a few strokes if you don’t like it. Nails must be short and groomed to pull off this look correctly. It’s good hygiene and good fashion sense. Here are fun colors to try from Face Stockholm.

Midsection
Women: I’m in love with the Jcrew Vintage Cotton V-Neck Tee. Pair it with a black blazer and black pants for a meeting or jeans and a wedge for post-lab social hour. They’re versatile and the v-neck is flattering for all figures.
Men:
Co-Op Barney’s New York Diagonal Stripe Tie
Color equals confidence! It may look like the Hubba Bubba watermelon wrapper to some. BUT trust me, worn with a white button down shirt, jeans or khaki pants, people will be thinking hubba hubba!
Feet
If you have to have be bold on your toes, then wear this:
Aldo Tullis Leather Flat – Suede mutes the color so it blends rather than blinds.
NOT this:
Aldo Hilser Flat – Full coverage, patent leather flats in a neon is nothing but distracting and unbalanced.
Remember, you’re a RAD scientist. Not mad…
