When Your Favorite Custom Cosmetics Disappear…Never Fear
by
My favorite lip color is discontinued! Why?!? This has happened a few times actually. I looked on Ebay, but couldn’t find it. Do you have any other suggestions on how to find or replicate the color?
Thank you,
Penny
Oh Penny, I feel your pain! Now, I don’t mean to minimize it, but this classic dilemma makes me wonder if cosmetic companies are in cahoots with the cosmos to present all lipstick lovers with a frustrating rite of passage? At one point or another all of us have had one of our pout perfections abruptly snatched from our possession. It’s not fair and can seem worthy of a picket line when you’re feeling particularly petulant. Don’t even bother asking why. All the sales evidence in the world won’t provide a sufficient solution to YOUR very acute issue. You want your color and you want it now.
To be honest, odds are that you will not be able to obtain your old lip shade exactly how you remember it. What you can do, however, is reinvent it and create a newer, updated version. Ultimately, is that not a goal of ours both personally and professionally? In some ways we are all scientists on a path of discovery. So perhaps this path to rediscover the perfect pout is really a parallel to rediscover our potential.
Thankfully there are two beauty brands that are happy to help us blend our cosmic and cosmetic journeys. Both Three Custom Color and Giella offer a service of replicating discontinued shades.
You have the option to send in the old shade if you still have a sliver left. OR you can recreate online by using drop down menus naming the old product and brand or by describing the ingredients and effects of the lipstick. OR you may call the company and speak with someone if you think you might need a bit of guidance.
In life and in cosmetics, we know that all good things must come to an end…in order to pave the way for something potentially more perfect!

I used to love a Covergirl lipstick that was discontinued and they put up a website trying to explain that "if I wore ____ (enter your lipstick name)", then "I'll just love _____ (new version of that color)". While it's not the case for my shade, some of the colors are so similar it's hard to tell a difference which makes me wonder why don't they just keep producing the original color? Is it all just for marketing so they can call an old color a "new" one??
